Presidents and the Super Bowl

Four universities have produced Presidents, Super Bowl QBs

I was going to try to put together a trivia question on this front, but I couldn’t figure out quite how to word it. Four universities have produced both a U.S. President and a Super Bowl winning quarterback (starting, that is).

Stanford University
Herbert Hoover was the 31st President (1929-1933), while Jim Plunkett and John Elway won Super Bowls.

Miami University
This is the Miami in Ohio. It’s the only one not only with a pair, but a pair with the same first name.

Ben Roethlisberger has won a couple of Super Bowls, against Seattle and Arizona, while Benjamin Harrison was the 23rd President (1889-1893).

University of Michigan
Tom Brady is going for his fourth Super Bowl win on Sunday.

Gerald Ford was the 38th President, in the ‘70s, and he oddly had a more distinguished college career for Michigan than Brady did, playing in a pair of national championship games in the ‘30s.

U.S. Naval Academy
Roger Staubach won Super Bowls for Dallas after the 1971 and 1977 seasons.

Jimmy Carter was the 39th President, serving from 1977-1981. So here’s the only pair that occurred at the same time – when Staubach helped the Cowboys beat Denver in the Superdome in January, 1978, Carter was the active, serving president.
