Andrew Luck has a bye this week, so you weren't going to use any Colts in Week 10 anyway. And now it appears you might not to want to use very many in Week 11, and possibly several weeks after that.
Luck lacerated a kidney and suffered a partial tear of an abdominal muscle against the Broncos on a fourth-quarter scramble. They're saying he'll be out 2-6 weeks, which is a pretty broad timetable -- and it seems like a pretty significant injury. Keenan Allen, of course, just landed on IR with a lacerated kidney. We can safely say his injury was more significant than that of Luck for him to immediately be ruled out for the season, but a tear in your kidney isn't something you tape up and go out to get sacked 2-3 times a game by opposing pass rushers against.
I have Luck in one league, and I'm scrambling to take a look at backup options for much more than just one game. Maybe Luck only misses 2 games, but the estimate that's closer to 6 seems a lot more realistic.
Matt Hasselbeck will fill in, and obviously he's started (and won) two games already this season. He averaged 248 passing yards and threw 3 TDs in those games. The Colts averaged 22 points. That's about what you're looking at from Indy's offense with Luck out of the lineup.
It's a downgrade for T.Y. Hilton, Donte Moncrief (who hasn't been doing much anyway of late) and the other receivers. A boost, theoretically, for Frank Gore; the Colts will need to lean on the run more. But they'll also be less threatening with the pass, so running room may be tougher to find.
This news came too late to get in our ReDrafter, but Ian Allan is writing about the Colts for this week's Weekly, and he'll no doubt discuss the fantasy impact of Luck's absence.
