I’m not sure Allen Hurns will even be on Jacksonville’s opening day roster. I think he’s probably their 4th-best wide receiver, and for what they’re paying him, I think the logical move is to cut him loose.

The Jaguars have two other returning wide receivers who are both better than Hurns, and they’re entering the final seasons of their rookie contracts – Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee. Lee underperformed in his first two seasons but came on last year.

And the Jaguars selected Dede Westbrook in the fourth round. He’s a small, quick playmaking receiver. Westbrook comes with the baggage of having twice been arrested (but not charged) in domestic violence issues, so he probably would have been selected in the second or third round if he had a clean background. When the Jaguars selected him in the fourth (taking on that risk), that means they must like him a lot.

So I think it’s time for Hurns to go. He signed a five-year contract worth almost $41 million prior to last year, and he’s simply not worth that kind of money. He’s not worth half that much.

Hurns played well in his first two seasons, but he really struggled last year. Especially with simply catching the ball. He dropped 6 passes while catching only 35 passes.

Across the league last year, 89 wide receivers caught at least 30 passes. Hurns had the worst drop rate of all of them.
