Drew Brees and the Saints take on Carolina this week, and the Panthers are one of only two defenses (with Denver) currently ranked in the top 5 against both the run and the pass. But should anyone really be looking to sit down Brees? Not at all.
Nearly half of Carolina's schedule has been played against decidedly lesser, non-Brees level quarterbacks. Brian Hoyer, Tyrod Taylor, Mike Glennon, Jay Cutler, injured-Winston/Fitzpatrick. Most of those guys have been benched at one point or another this season. Look at how the other six quarterbacks (including Brees himself) to face the Panthers have fared.
GOOD QUARTERBACKS VERSUS CAROLINA | ||
---|---|---|
Player | Yards | TD |
Brees, N.O. | 220 | 3 |
Brady, N.E. | 307 | 2 |
Stafford, Det. | 229 | 2 |
Wentz, Phil. | 222 | 3 |
Ryan, Atl. | 313 | 2 |
McCown, NYJ | 307 | 3 |
All six threw multiple touchdowns, half threw for over 300 yards. Don't worry about Brees or the Saints passing game in this matchup.
