The Seahawks used their first-round pick on Rashaad Penny, and most are assuming he’ll be their starter and a sleeper-type fantasy option. But hold on. They also have Chris Carson, and he was very impressive as a rookie.
Carson is a big, physical runner – similar to Penny – and has shown he can be productive. He lit it up pretty good in August last year, and had just beaten out Eddie Lacy and Thomas Rawls for the starting job last year when he was lost for the season with a broken ankle.
Bob Condotta covers the Seahawks for the Seattle Times. He’s at all of the practices. And click here.Condotta says Carson, not Penny, will be the team’s starting running back.
“Carson appeared the clear number one ending minicamp and if he stays healthy through training camp, I’d imagine he’ll be the starter going into the season,” Condotta wrote in an article this morning.
Carson, he writes, didn’t play much last year but averaged 4.2 yards per carry. That was more than LeVeon Bell, Leonard Fournette and Ezekiel Elliott, among others.
Relative to where they’re being selected in fantasy leagues, Carson looks like a much better pick than Penny right now.
