Question

Who is the only quarterback who has started and won a Super Bowl game but never in his career has passed or run for a touchdown in a Super Bowl game?

Answer

Joe Namath. He helped the Jets to a 16-7 win over the Colts in Super Bowl III, but it was a low-scoring game in a different era, with New York’s only touchdown coming on a Matt Snell run. One other Super Bowl winning quarterback hasn’t thrown any touchdowns, Jim McMahon, but he ran for 2 TDs in Chicago’s 46-10 dismantling of the Patriots.

All the Earl Morrall fans out there thought he may have been the one.

Many rumors Earl the pearl tanked that game. I believe he did. I'd debate anyone who thinks otherwise.

What a terrific answer! The most important win in SB history and the star didn’t even score. Talk about a very different era, for sure!

i am sure everyone knows Shula goes to the Dolphins and in 72 and Earl the pearl goes 9-0 to help the Dolphins go undefeated that year

Was there ever any evidence of Morrall tanking? Other than the Bubba Smith book tour in the 80s?

Jay the flea flicker INT was too obvious. They ran it during the season for a TD to WR Jimmy Orr. Vs the Jets, Orr was again- wide open standing all alone. Instead, Morrall threw the opposite direction- into coverage for the INT. Anyone who thinks nothing is suspicious should work on the Trump 20/20 campaign

I said the same thing about Neil o donnell in the 96 Super bowl Steelers vs Dallas threw two picks to larry brown who was wide open both times

While I agree with Gregory that the flea flicker INT was a bad mistake I'm not sure I can take one play as evidence of a top-down (from the owner I mean) conspiracy to fix a Super Bowl. Do you think Russell Wilson tanked his game? Or Scott Norwood? Or Garo Yepremian?

Far from "one play", Morrall was a pathetic 6-17 for 71 yds w 3 int vs an average Jets defense. The 68 Colts team was arguably the best in NFL history- how else to lose the mediocre AFL Jets?
