Texans send out Clowney, bring in Tunsil and Stills

The committee (we hesitate to say "braintrust") running the Texans made two titanic moves on Saturday, trading pass rusher JADEVEON CLOWNEY to Seattle for pennies on the dollar and promptly spending the money that trade saved by importing OT LAREMY TUNSIL and WR KENNY STILLS from Miami. We posted about both trades at our website; the short version of what went down is that Clowney refused to cooperate with the Texans' earlier efforts to deal him to the Dolphins, but agreed on Saturday to join Pete Carroll's Seahawks instead. The trade with Seattle netted a couple of backup linebackers and a future third-round pick -- not a great return for one of the league's better defenders, obviously. But Houston still coveted players it had discussed with the Dolphins, and wound up paying the hefty price of two future first-round picks and a future second-rounder (plus a couple of lesser players) for Tunsil and Stills (plus future fourth- and sixth-round picks). Tunsil is a massive upgrade on what the team had at tackle; Stills looks more like a hedge against the iffy health of fellow receivers Will Fuller and Keke Coutee. The Texans may see better results on the field with this new configuration of talent, but they have very heavily mortgaged their future to find out.
