Ask the Experts

Which underachiever will turn things around?

Mike Evans, GB wideouts get named

ASK THE EXPERTS appears weekly from training camp through the Super Bowl with answers to a new question being posted Thursday morning. How the guest experts responded when we asked them: Which underachiever thus far will turn things around the rest of the way?

MICHAEL NEASE

The 2019 season has started out pretty much the way most seasons begin. There is the usual abundance of injuries and surprises. Nobody expected Lamar Jackson to be edging out Patrick Mahomes as the top scoring quarterback at this point. Who would have expected that one of the top QB/WR pairs would be off to such a horrific start fantasy wise? So far the Aaron Rodgers/Davante Adams duo is found mired deep in the scoring standings, below many players not anywhere near their caliber. Rest assured that this momentary cosmic disturbance in the fantasy football universe will return to normalcy shortly. The Packers have played two of the best defenses in the NFL in Weeks 1 and 2, and have won both games. The lesson here is that two weeks do not constitute a trend.

Nease is a member of the FSWA and has been playing the game since 1985, while also writing about it since 2001. He is a writer for Big Guy Fantasy Sports. Tampa Bay's Mike Evans is too talented to fail to produce for his fantasy owners. Stick with him! He will rebound soon.

There are a handful of speedy rookie running backs that I believe will eventually make their mark. The first is Darwin Thompson. For starters, you can’t have too many chips in Kansas City's offense. Although Thompson only has two touches on the season his role is likely to grow and he could tee off when or if he is called upon. Next, and likewise, I think you’ll see the Ravens’ Justice Hill have a bigger role over time (and you also wants more pieces of this offense). Hill is a big-play waiting to happen. To complete the trifecta, I think Darrell Henderson will eventually make a mark as well. Henderson may be relegated to many a league’s waiver wire right now but he is worth a stash and hold given his upside as a receiving back (like Thompson and Hill), and also playing on an elite offense.

I said Mike Evans last week, perhaps because I misunderstood the question. And I'm going to say Mike Evans again now. I get why everyone is excited about Chris Godwin, and I'm excited too. But I still see Evans as Tampa's No. 1 receiver. There's too much good resume here, and I dare Jameis Winston to be this awful for the full season. Go get Mike Evans.

Davante Adams has no TDs through Week 2. Others have scored TDs for Green Bay, so when will their No. 1 wide receiver finally hit paydirt and make that Lambeau Leap? Adams has 35 TDs the last 3 years, so he is definitely overdue. Game 1 against Chicago was abysmal, lots of misfires. However, last week he topped the hundred yard threshold. So it would stand to reason that this week, when Denver invades the not-yet-frozen-tundra, Davante Adams should finally be able to put together 100+ yards and 1-2 TDs.

Green Bay has opened against Chicago and Minnesota, so it makes sense that scoring would be down. But somebody just dropped Marquez Valdes-Scantling in one of my leagues, and that's too quick to write this passing game off. I'm not sure it will begin this week (Denver), but after that comes a stretch against Philadelphia, Dallas, Detroit, Oakland and Kansas City. In some of those games Green Bay's offense will need to put up big passing numbers, in others it will be easy. I still like these pass catchers.
