ASK THE EXPERTS appears weekly from training camp through the Super Bowl with answers to a new question being posted Thursday morning. How the guest experts responded when we asked them: Which backup quarterback, now starting, will have the best career?

MICHAEL NEASE

Over the last few years, there has been a transition from older, experienced quarterbacks to young guns who have brought a renewed excitement to the game we love. With the current injury wave sweeping through the QB ranks, many backups have stepped to the forefront and are looking pretty darn good. Over the last three games Gardner Minshew has been the 8th ranked scoring QB overall, averaging 23.25 points per game. That is a better average than Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Dak Prescott and many more established quarterbacks. With such a successful start to his career, he shows the potential to play at a very high level.

Nease is a member of the FSWA and has been playing the game since 1985, while also writing about it since 2001. He is a writer for Big Guy Fantasy Sports. Over the years he has sampled about all the playing scenarios that fantasy football offers, including re-drafter, keeper, dynasty, auction, IDP and salary cap leagues. SCOTT SACHS

Teddy Bridgewater is fulfilling his scouting report. Smart, cool under fire, not a big arm, but knows where to go with the ball. Above all, his leadership qualities are apparent, his teammates love him. Sort of amazing, really, that he's won over the franchise when taking over for an icon like Drew Brees. The Saints may end up with Bridgewater longer term, should Brees decide to hang 'em up after this season.

DAVID DOREY

Gardner Minshew has already made Nick Foles expendable. He’s the real deal on a team that is one offensive line from becoming a contender in the AFC. The Jaguars already remade their receiver corps and Minshew has made DJ Chark a star. He’s everything that Blake Bortles never was and cost a lot less.

Dorey has been dealing out all the rankings and projections for The Huddle since 1997 and wrote up a preview of every game for the last 21 years. His specialty is schedule strength and he’s been in countless magazines, podcasts, and radio shows. He is the author of Fantasy Football: The Next Level.

I just don’t think there’s an answer to the question. Minshew looks fine, Daniel Jones looks fine, everyone else looks worse. I can pretend to have special insight into how a guy’s first handful of games (snaps, really) will translate into his eventual odds at Hall of Fame enshrinement, but instead I’ll leave it at this: I’d feel at least OK about rooting for either the Jaguars or the Giants. Less so about the Dolphins, Steelers, etc.

SCOTT PIANOWSKI

Although I now see a floor for Gardner Minshew, I have to side with Daniel Jones for a higher upside. Just don't negatively judge Jones from the rainy mess we might see on Thursday night.

ANDY RICHARDSON

Call me crazy but I think Jacoby Brissett might be the Colts' starter for several years to come. He runs Frank Reich's offense well and has a pretty talented team around hm, not least of which includes a strong offensive line. The Colts just may win the AFC South this year, with Brissett the starter. Quarterbacks are too hard to replace to think the Colts won't continue to try and develop Brissett as the long-term quarterback and face of the franchise.
