With the way Carson Wentz has been piling up sacks, interceptions and fumbles, Seattle’s defense looks like an intriguing choice for tonight’s game. The Seahawks have been improving defensively anyway.
Wentz, meanwhile, is closing in on being one of the most sacked quarterbacks ever.
In NFL history, only 53 quarterbacks have taken at least 50 sacks in a season. Barring either an injury, benching or an unlikely change in what he’s doing on the field, Wentz will join that group. He’s got 40 sacks in his first 10 games.
Among those with at least 50 sacks, only eight also have been sacked at least 4 times per game. Wentz is currently on pace to join that group.
Randall Cunningham and David Carr have historically been the most sack prone quarterbacks in league history. They’ve both had two seasons with at least 60 sacks.
On the chart below, I’ve got the guys in order not by total sacks, but by sacks per game (among guys who took at least 50).
