Two more NFL games today, and the injury news seems to be poor from the perspective of the teams themselves but good for those hoping to use healthy players on those teams. Fewer competitors for snaps in New Orleans and Kansas City, most notably.
The Saints are expected to be without both Latavius Murray and Taysom Hill against Tampa Bay. The absence of Murray doesn't seem like a big deal, with Ty Montgomery not necessarily a big step back as the No. 2. But it will likely mean more touches for Alvin Kamara, with Montgomery probably not as involved as Murray would have been.
Hill being out, if that happens, eliminates a change-up wrinkle the Saints like to employ as a quarterback near the goal line and also as a tight end on occasion. So they'll miss that, but it's great news for Drew Brees (who won't now come off the field in any of those situations, and also Kamara (should get the goal line carries) and the various receivers, including Jared Cook. Maybe Sean Payton will be disappointed, but nobody hoping to use any other Saints should be.
In Kansas City, it's being reported that Clyde Edwards-Helaire is unlikely to play today for the team. Unfortunate for anyone hoping to use a less than 100 percent CEH coming off a hip and ankle injury (anyone?), but good news for those hoping to use LeVeon Bell and Darrel Williams. Those should be the only involved running backs. If we're going by most of the second half of the season, Bell played the most as the No. 2. But if we're going by Week 16, Williams got more rushing attempts and was more involved in the passing game. Difficult to say with much certainty who will be the better back today, but at least it won't be a three-way committee -- both should be involved.
The Browns should have right tackle Jack Conklin (hamstring) available today, a plus for their offense against Kansas City.
Tampa Bay is calling Ronald Jones (quad) a gametime decision. Given that, Leonard Fournette should start and be the main back, with Jones the No. 2 if he's active at all.
Green Bay came out of its win over the Rams healthy. They'll host (and probably be a 6- to 7-point favorite against) the winner of Bucs-Saints.
Buffalo will either host Cleveland or travel to Kansas City next week.
