Deshaun Watson, Matthew Stafford, Trevor Lawrence and even Aaron Rodgers. The 2020 season isn’t even over yet, but it’s becoming apparent that quarterbacks will dominate the offseason, with perhaps more significant movement than ever before.
Watson is one of the top few quarterbacks in the league, and reports indicate he wants out of Houston. Hard to believe it will actually happen, but he might be able to force a trade.
Stafford has been quarterbacking the Lions for the last 12 years, but the team has announced he’ll be moved. Both sides there want to start fresh.
And fresh off the loss in the NFC Championship, Rodgers poked around the idea that he might be moved. The team might be ready to transition to Jordan Love, or perhaps Rodgers doesn’t want to play for the team that used a first-round pick to draft his replacement – he instead could be looking for a fresh start and a new contract.
And there are plenty of other fluid situations. Certainly in Philadelphia, where they’ve got to figure out how Carson Wentz fits in. And a week ago Sean McVay declined multiple times to fully commit to Jared Goff.
It should make for a wild offseason. By my count, there are only 13 teams where it looks pretty lead-pipe certain who’ll be starting at quarterback on opening day next season.
