Question

What team in 1967 went 11-1-2, tying for the best record in the NFL, but didn’t make the playoffs?

Answer

Baltimore Colts. Playing in the Coastal Division (this was pre-merger) the Colts and Los Angeles Rams both finished 11-1-2. The Rams won the tiebreaker, joining 9-5 Dallas, 9-5 Cleveland and 9-4-1 Green Bay in the playoffs, with the Colts left out of the postseason. Packers went on to win Super Bowl II that year. The Colts came back the next season to go 13-1, making it to the Super Bowl before the historic first NFL loss to an AFL team. The Colts are now located in Indianapolis and the Rams have moved to Anaheim and St. Louis and back to LA, but these franchises will meet up again in Week 2.
