Question

What three teams have gone over 50 years without appearing in a Super Bowl?

Answer

Lions, Browns, Jets. The Lions won the NFL title in 1957 (winning 59-14 at home against Cleveland); they haven’t been in a championship game since. The Browns last played in an NFL title game in 1965, losing 23-12 at Green Bay (that was the season before the first Super Bowl). Cleveland also lost to Baltimore in the 1968 NFL title game, but with the winner needing to go on to play in Super Bowl III, we consider that to be something less than a true championship game. The Jets haven’t played in a championship game since Super Bowl III. With the Browns put on ice from 1996-98, they’re tied with the Jets in terms of seasons (rather than years) without a title game appearance. (Detroit and Cleveland will play each other this week).
