After an overnight flurry of firings of prominent Raiders head office personnel, Jimmy Garoppolo is the next victim to get the axe.
One of the biggest mid-season firings came in the middle of the night when Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis dismissed head coach Josh McDaniels, general manager Dave Ziegler, and offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi. Antonio Pierce was appointed as the interim head coach.
NFL media reports indicate that starting Week 9 (opponent New York Giants), rookie Aidan O'Connell will replace Jimmy Garoppolo as the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. This follows Garoppolo's poor performance in a recent 26-14 defeat to the Detroit Lions, where he managed a season-low 126 passing yards with a 47.6% completion rate and one interception.
Heralded as the QB of the future for the 49ers, Jimmy G has yet to get back to his earlier career numbers in his six years with San Francisco where he averaged a QB rating of 97.05, Jimmy G's current rating sits at 78.1 with the Raiders.
With Pierce as interim HC, and rookie O'Connell starting, there's no telling what direction the Raiders will go for the rest of the season or into 2024.
