The Eagles won’t have Dallas Goedert for about a month; he broke his arm against Dallas. But I don’t think there will be a viable fill-in player when he’s gone. They don’t have another tight end who can step in and do Goedert-type things.

Albert Okwuegbunam is the one name that can be kicked around some. He caught 7 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown in a preseason game against the Rams in August, and he had one game with at least 5 catches in each of his first three seasons (when he was often buried behind Noah Fant). When the Broncos decided in late August that he didn’t fit into their plans, the Eagles were intrigued enough to trade a late pick for him.

But it would need to be a pretty large fantasy league before I would be thinking about using a roster spot on Okwuegbunam.

Their other tight ends are primarily blockers: Jack Stoll, Grant Calcaterra. We got to see those guys in increased roles last year when Goedert was sidelined for a month. They combined to catch 11 passes for 115 yards in those five games, with no touchdowns.

When Goedert was shelved last year, Quez Watkins played a more prominent role, but not to the level where he was much of a fantasy option: 18 catches for 128 yards and 2 TDs in five games.

Recently, the Eagles haven’t had a clear third wide receiver behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Julio Jones and Olamide Zaccheaus have been comparable recently. (Neither, in my opinion, is worth taking a flyer on.)
