After suffering an Achilles tear, Aaron Rodgers lasted only four snaps during the 2023 NFL season. Despite playing that little, he earned an additional $81.14. That’s not a misprint. He earned that much as part of the New York Jets’ performance-based pay.

While Rodgers has earned $342.4 million throughout his career, he was eligible for performance-based pay because of his three-year, $112.5 million restructured contract, which earned him $1.83 million in 2023.

With Rodgers back to full health, the Jets are hoping for a better performance than their 7-10 record last season. Hence, they added wide receiver Mike Williams to line up with Xavier Gipson and Garrett Wilson.

They also fortified their offensive line by adding Tyron Smith, John Simpson, and Morgan Moses. The Jets don’t want a repeat of last season, wherein a sack by Leonard Floyd led to Rodgers’ season-ending injury.

But if New York’s AFC success wants to break its playoff drought, it must compete well against teams in the AFC East. The Buffalo Bills have Josh Allen, while the Miami Dolphins have an explosive offense with Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Raheem Mostert, and De’Von Achane.

Despite the tough opposition, the Jets will be in good hands if Aaron Rodgers has an MVP-like season.
