Bills Sign Marquez Valdes-Scantling to One-Year Contract

Wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling and the Buffalo Bills have agreed to terms on a one-year deal. The contract’s exact amount has not been disclosed. Valdes-Scantling played the last two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, earning Super Bowl titles in both years.

While he played nearly the same number of games in 2022 and 2023, he had better numbers in the previous season. Valdes-Scantling tallied 42 catches for 687 yards and two touchdowns in his first year with the Chiefs. He had 21 receptions for 315 yards and a touchdown a year later. He also caught three touchdowns in seven postseason games.

Valdes-Scantling started his career with the Green Bay Packers after they selected him in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft. After playing four seasons in Green Bay, he signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Chiefs. He won't finish that contract because the Chiefs released him after they won Super Bowl 58.

Therefore, the former North Carolina State and South Florida standout played with quarterbacks who could be future Hall of Famers. After catching passes from four-time NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers, he played with three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.

In 2024, Valdes-Scantling will line up with two-time Pro Bowler Josh Allen. He will join a receiving unit featuring Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel, Chase Claypool, and rookie Keon Coleman.
