Factoid: Decoy receivers

Marquez Valdes-Scantling had puzzling a Super Bowl. He was on the field for almost two thirds of Kansas City’s plays. He was a starter-type guy in a 38-35 shootout. Yet he had only one pass thrown his way (an incompletion).   more »

Factoid: Skyy Moore

There will be some adjustments made to Kansas City’s receiving corps in the offseason. Neither JuJu Smith-Schuster nor Marquez Valdes-Scantling is sure to be back, and I’m expecting both Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore will play larger roles.   more »

Factoid: Kansas City

Patrick Mahomes threw 41 touchdowns in the regular season, and he did it without any of the wide receivers on his team catching more than 4 touchdowns. Kansas City doesn’t use that position much inside the red zone. More commonly, Kansas City has featured Travis Kelce and Jerick McKinnon around the goal line. Kelce has caught 12 touchdowns (plus 2 more in the playoffs), while McKinnon has caught 9.   more »

Kansas City WR Valdes-Scantling to see expanded role?

Kansas City head coach Andy Reid said recently that new wide receiver MARQUEZ VALDES-SCANTLING has proven versatile enough thus far that he could be considered more than just a deep threatMore in the team’s offense. Reid noted that MVS has the ability to work underneath routes that he didn’t see in Green Bay. Valdes-Scantling added that he wasn’t limited in Green Bay, but the team had specific roles and he focused on what was best for the team. Less

Around the NFL: Marquez Valdes-Scantling

I've seen some talk suggesting Marquez Valdes-Scantling is a nice sleeper. This includes not just Kansas City fans, but fantasy pros who can see him putting up nice numbers on a regular basis with Patrick Mahomes. I can see him having some nice weeks and the occasional long touchdown. But steady production? Unlikely.   more »

Around the NFL: Christian Watson

I think I’ve got an idea of the plan for Christian Watson, and I think it was kind of confirmed by executive Brian Gutekunst at a press conference at their spring workouts. At least for now, their rookie receiver isn’t a replacement for Davante Adams but instead for Marquez Valdes-Scantling.  more »

Factoid: Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Kansas City has remade its receiving corps, with Tyreek Hill gone and JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling in. Smith-Schuster, I’m interested in. Valdes-Scantling, not so much.  more »

MVS signing deal with Kansas City

The day after Kansas City traded star wide receiver TYREEK HILL to the Miami Dolphins, the team is reportedly signing former Green Bay wideout MARQUEZ VALDES-SCANTLING to a three-year contract toMore join the team’s wide receiver corps. Valdes-Scantling missed several games with a hamstring injury last season so Kansas City will hope for improved health in 2022. Less

Factoid: Green Bay receivers

The Packers unloaded Davante Adams, and they surprisingly didn’t get that much for him – just first- and second-round picks. They have, however, shown that they can win without their star.   more »

Around the NFL: Marquez Valdes-Scantling

A story in The Athletic indicates that free agent wideout Marquez Valdes-Scantling will probably be too expensive for Green Bay to retain. The Packers are hoping to bring back both Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams for another run at a Super Bowl, so they need to save money elsewhere. Question to me if they'd really be losing all that much.   more »

Packers activate WR Cobb from injured reserve

The Green Bay Packers activated veteran wide receiver RANDALL COBB from injured reserve on Thursday and he is expected to play Saturday night against the San Francisco 49ers in the DivisionalMore Round playoff game. Cobb has worked his way back from core muscle surgery in less than two months. With fellow wide receiver MARQUEZ VALDES-SCANTLING doubtful for the game due to a back issue, Cobb could be in line for a big game as one of quarterback AARON RODGERS’ trusted targets. Less

Around the NFL: Marquez Valdes-Scantling

If we assume that Aaron Rodgers plays for Green Bay this year -- not certain, but there seems to be no interest on the part of the team in trading him, and Rodgers doesn't seem likely to actually sit out when push comes to shove -- the secondary receivers need to be considered. Davante Adams, Robert Tonyan, and?  more »
