Jordan Love will play the 2024 NFL season under the one-year, $13.5 million contract he signed last year. However, a breakout season would give his camp the leverage to negotiate for a lucrative contract extension. Therefore, he’s exercising that advantage by not participating in practices.
But as The 33rd Team NFL writer Ari Meirov pointed out, Love isn’t doing a holdout. Instead, he’s doing the opposite, called a hold-in. A player undergoing a hold-in is still at the team’s facility during training camp to avoid getting fined. However, his participation could be limited to team meetings, and he’s not joining team scrimmages.
This is NOT a holdout by Jordan Love. He's in the building and will participate in meetings. He just isn't taking the field until both sides can finalize a contract extension, which could happen very soon.

Love's extension is expected to exceed $50M per year. https://t.co/MtUCao2irM
Despite the delay in his contract, what’s good is that both sides are keen on extending their partnership. However, Jordan Love wants a contract at the right price based on the prevailing rates for the quarterback market. Therefore, as some sources shared, the former Utah State standout could become the league’s highest-paid quarterback.
For reference, Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence share the highest annual average ($55 million) among quarterbacks. Love’s camp believes they deserve more after an impressive debut season as the Green Bay Packers starting quarterback.
Love played all 17 regular season games, finishing with 372 completions for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns. However, regarding contract negotiations, the Packers can argue that Love only played well starting in the second half of the 2023 season. However, without a backup plan, Love will get the contract he desires because of his upside.
