Multiple sources confirmed that the Houston Texans have signed running back Cam Akers. While the terms of the deal have not been disclosed, it’s a positive development for him after dealing with a season-ending Achilles injury.
Signing with the Texans means he played only one season for the Minnesota Vikings. He arrived at Minnesota after his former team, the Los Angeles Rams, traded him and a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick for a conditional 2026 sixth-round pick. Unfortunately, he lasted only six games, tallying 38 carries for 138 yards and a touchdown.

While Akers will have an opportunity to resurrect his football career, he must compete for playing time with Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce. However, it remains to be seen how he will fare after recovering from the second Achilles injury during his NFL career. The former Florida State standout incurred his first Achilles injury in 2021, limiting him to one game.
Akers’ best NFL season occurred in 2022, tallying 188 carries for 786 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games. It’s also the most games he has played in a season. Akers has 398 carries for 1,581 yards and 13 touchdowns in four NFL seasons.
