The Dallas Cowboys needed reinforcements in their pass rush after Sam Williams suffered a season-ending ACL and MCL tears. Hence, they will conduct a workout for veteran defensive end Carl Lawson, who once played for the Cincinnati Bengals and the New York Jets.
Lawson can relate to Williams because he underwent a season-ending Achilles tear in 2021. While he bounced back by playing 17 games the following year, Lawson played only six games last season, finishing with five tackles.
The Bengals selected Lawson in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He played for the AFC North squad for four seasons. During the 2021 offseason, he signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Jets. As of the 2023 season, Lawson has 119 tackles and 27 sacks in 74 career games.

In addition to Lawson, the Cowboys invited Justin Hollins, Al-Quadin Muhammad, and Shaka Toney for workouts. Last season, Hollins played 12 games for the Green Bay Packers, the New York Giants, and the Los Angeles Chargers.
Meanwhile, Muhammad last played for the Chicago Bears in the NFL two years ago. He tried out for the Indianapolis Colts last season but didn't make it past the practice squad. Worst yet, the NFL gave him a six-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
Finally, Toney was a seventh-round draft pick in 2021 and played the previous three seasons for the Washington Football Team/Commanders.
