Jets Activate WR Mike Williams Off PUP List

The New York Jets removed wide receiver Mike Williams from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list after he passed his physical. This update increases his chances of playing during the Jets’ 2024 season opener on September 9 against the San Francisco 49ers.

The former first-round draft pick suffered a torn ACL in Week 3 of the 2023 NFL season, which he played for the Los Angeles Chargers. Williams finished that season with 19 receptions for 249 yards and a touchdown.

Los Angeles's AFC team released Williams on the first day of the 2024 league year, ending his seven-year tenure with the squad. Almost a week later, the Jets signed him to a one-year, $10 million contract, which includes $8.3 million in guaranteed money and a $3.3 million signing bonus.

When healthy, the former Clemson standout is among the league's top wideouts. Three years ago, he established career highs in receptions (76) and receiving yards (1,146) while playing 16 games. That's the version of Williams that the Jets hope to get as he lines up with former Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson and four-time NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers.

After winning a CFP National Championship with the Tigers, the Chargers selected Williams seventh overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. As of 2023, he has 316 receptions for 4,916 yards and 31 touchdowns in 90 career games, including playoffs.
