Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr. Had Strong Preseason Debuts

Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. are two of the six quarterbacks selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Therefore, going off the board that early means that the Denver Broncos and the Atlanta Falcons hope they will be franchise quarterbacks.

After completing impressive preseason debuts, both rookies proved they have the talent to carry their teams. Nix helped the Broncos complete a 34-30 victory over the Indianapolis Colts by completing 15 passes out of 21 attempts for 125 yards and a touchdown. He was in a good rhythm, and his drives led to two touchdowns and two field goals.

The Broncos listed Nix as the third quarterback in their first depth chart of 2024, putting him behind Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. However, his performance against Indianapolis is a glimpse of how he established the NCAA record 77.4 completion percentage last year.

Meanwhile, Penix had nine completions out of 16 attempts for 106 yards. However, the Falcons lost their preseason debut to the Miami Dolphins. That’s a minor setback because the former Washington Huskie manifested that he could eventually take over from Kirk Cousins once the franchise deemed him ready.

Penix and the Falcons will face the Baltimore Ravens in preseason Week 2. Conversely, Nix and the Broncos will clash with the Green Bay Packers.
