Patriots Trade Matthew Judon To Falcons

Multiple reports confirm that the New England Patriots traded edge rusher Matthew Judon to the Atlanta Falcons for a 2025 third-round pick. The Falcons will be Judon’s third NFL team after the Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens.

Reaching a stalemate during the contract extension negotiations led to this trade between Atlanta and New England. Judon was in the final season of the four-year, $54.5 million contract he signed as a free agent during the 2021 offseason. Per Spotrac, he will earn a $6.5 million base salary and a $235,292 million roster bonus.

Therefore, it's now the Falcons' turn to try and secure the four-time Pro Bowler to a multi-year contract. They must bet that the former Grand Valley State standout will be integral to their plans, even if he played only four games last season due to a torn lower bicep injury.

At his best, the 32-year-old outside linebacker is among the league's best edge rushers. He had 28 sacks in his first two seasons with the Patriots and 32.5 in five seasons with the Ravens. When healthy, he will boost the Falcon's pass rush, which generated only 42 sacks last season. Judon and Grady Jarrett will bolster Atlanta's goal of sacking the opposing quarterback.
