Two postseason contenders have made moves to bolster their running back depth chart. The Kansas City Chiefs signed Samaje Perine, joining Isiah Pacheco, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and Carson Steele.
The Denver Broncos released Perine as part of their final roster cuts before the August 27 deadline. Therefore, the running back from Oklahoma didn’t finish the two-year contract he signed with Denver last year.
Before joining the Chiefs, Perine played for the Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins, and the Cincinnati Bengals. As of the 2023 season, Perine has 1,830 rushing yards, 1,191 receiving yards, and 14 touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys have signed a contract with four-time Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook. He last played with the Baltimore Ravens during the 2023 playoffs, tallying eight carries for 23 yards. His playoff appearance is a consolation for his 2023 campaign, wherein Breece Hall’s emergence led to his release.

Before playing for the Jets, Cook played six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and went over 1,000 rushing yards from 2019 to 2022. In the Dallas backfield, Cook will join Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle, and Deuce Vaughn.
As of 2023, Cook has 1,409 carries for 6,402 yards and 49 touchdowns in 92 career games (including playoffs). Cook could also play as early as Week 1 when the Cowboys face the Cleveland Browns.
