Spencer Rattler, Aidan O'Connell To Start In Week 6

The New Orleans Saints have announced that rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler will be their Week 6 starter against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Meanwhile, second-year QB Aidan O’Connell will start for the Las Vegas Raiders versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rattler earned the opportunity for his first NFL start after Derek Carr suffered an oblique tear that could sideline him for weeks. While Jake Haener initially substituted for Carr when he was injured during their Week 5 Monday Night Football game versus the Kansas City Chiefs, Rattler got the nod for their upcoming showdown against their division rival.

Rattler initially played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners. However, he transferred to the University of South Carolina before the 2022 season after Caleb Williams unseated him as the Sooners’ starting QB. In two seasons with the Gamecocks, Rattler had 539 completions for 6,212 passing yards and 37 touchdowns. He also added 150 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.

Meanwhile, O’Connell replaces Gardner Minshew, the Raiders’ starting quarterback from Weeks 1 to 5. The change happened after the Raiders lost a road game to the Denver Broncos while putting up only 18 points.

The former Purdue standout started ten games during his rookie season, finishing with 213 completions for 2,218 yards and 12 touchdowns. However, he split those games, and the Raiders failed to reach the postseason.
