Aidan Hutchinson Out for 2024 Season After Gruesome Leg Injury

Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson was having a fantastic start to his 2024 season. In addition to leading the league in sacks with 7.5, he has 19 tackles and 17 quarterback hits. Unfortunately, his campaign might abruptly end after a devastating leg injury.

As a consolation, Hutchinson completed a sack of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott even though Prescott had already begun experiencing the injury. In a gruesome video that Fox Sports opted not to replay, Hutchinson’s broken tibia forced his leg to bend in an unusual direction.

As confirmed by NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport, Hutchinson underwent surgery on his leg after the Lions’ dominating road victory over the Cowboys. That operation forced the Pro Bowl defensive end to remain in Dallas after the game.

Sadly, as Rapoport added, Hutchinson will likely miss the remainder of the 2024 season as the edge rusher focuses on his recovery. However, Rapoport mentioned that Hutchinson should be ready for a return in 2025.

Until Hutchinson returns, the Lions must find someone who will be the focal point of their pass rush. Defensive tackle Alim McNeill could be that guy, but he is a distant second from Hutchinson with 2.5 sacks.

Levi Onwuzurike is third with 1.5 sacks, while DJ Reader, Malcolm Rodriguez, and Trevor Nowaske each have one sack. Failing to address this concern could be the downfall of their campaign.
