Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens are on a four-game winning streak after surviving the fierce opposition from the surging Washington Commanders. The two-time NFL Most Valuable Player was a massive part of their success by tallying 20 completions for 323 yards and a touchdown.
Of course, his stat line won’t be complete without his yards from the ground. Jackson took a back seat to Derrick Henry, who finished with 24 carries for 132 rushing yards and two touchdowns. However, the quarterback’s 40 rushing yards was enough to put him second in the career totals among quarterbacks.
As the NFL on CBS account on X/Twitter pointed out, Jackson surpassed former NFL MVP Cam Newton with 5,629 rushing yards. What’s spectacular is that the former Louisville standout reached that number in only 92 games. In contrast, Newton gathered 5,628 rushing yards in 148 games.
Jackson has also surpassed Russell Wilson (5,307) and Randall Cunningham (4,928) on the list. Therefore, he’s chasing only one man: Michael Vick, with 6,109 career rushing yards. With Jackson needing 481 yards to break Vick’s record, the reigning MVP could reach that number before the 2024 regular season ends.

However, leaving that record aside, Jackson is having a fantastic start to his season. He has completed 67 percent of his throws for 1,529 yards and ten touchdowns and added 403 rushing yards and two touchdowns in six games. More importantly, he can lead the Ravens to their fifth straight victory with a favorable result against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their October 21 Monday Night Football showdown.
