Despite the rumors surrounding a potential trade, the New Orleans Saints and Alvin Kamara agreed to a two-year, $24.5 million contract extension. This deal keeps him with the Saints, the team that selected him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, until 2026, when he turns 31.
Before this extension, Kamara was in the final season of the five-year, $75 million contract extension he signed in 2020. He is due a $10.2 million prorated base salary and has an $18.5 million cap hit. Through Week 7 of the 2024 season, the former Tennessee standout has 438 rushing yards, 252 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns (six rushing).
His solid start to the season is a glimpse of how he has been New Orleans’ top running back since joining the NFC South squad. He’s one of the established dual-threat backs in the league because he is a legitimate threat in both the rushing and passing attacks.

His contributions to those offensive facets allowed him to surpass the 1,000 yards from scrimmage mark every year he played. Meanwhile, football fans and media personnel recognized his prowess by naming him to two Second-Team All-Pro and five Pro Bowl selections. He also received votes for NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2020 when he had 932 rushing yards, 756 passing yards, and 21 touchdowns.
