Chiefs Trade For DeAndre Hopkins

With the 2024 NFL season stakes high for the Kansas City Chiefs, they finalized a trade with the Tennessee Titans for All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Meanwhile, the Titans will receive a 2025 fifth-round pick that could become a fourth-rounder if he played 60 percent of the Chiefs’ offensive snaps. Likewise, the Titans will pay $2.5 million of Hopkins’ remaining $8 million salary this season.

While the Chiefs have remained undefeated in their first six games, injuries have ravaged their wide receiver rotation. Hollywood Brown (shoulder), Rashee Rice (knee), and Jaaron Hayek are on injured reserve due to various injuries.

At the same time, JuJu Smith-Schuster won’t play in their Week 8 game against the Las Vegas Raiders due to a hamstring injury. Therefore, the Chiefs badly need help in the passing game, leading them to acquire Hopkins.

Before joining the Chiefs, Hopkins played the better part of two seasons for the Titans. He joined the club as a free agent, signing a two-year contract during the 2023 offseason. However, his best years came when he suited up for the Houston Texans and the Arizona Cardinals.

In the ten seasons Hopkins spent with those two teams, he earned five All-Pro selections (three First-Team) and five Pro Bowl nods. He also led the league in touchdown receptions in 2017.

The Chiefs also considered trading for Cooper Kupp but went with Hopkins because the Los Angeles Rams demanded a high compensation. With Hopkins already in Kansas City, he will play a vital role in their quest for the NFL’s first three-peat Super Bowl champions.
