Buccaneers WRs Mike Evans, Chris Godwin Out Indefinitely

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are having a respectable start to the 2024 NFL season, winning four of their first seven games. While they are in the thick of things for a playoff berth, returning to the path toward the Super Bowl could be more challenging after injuries have hampered their top two wide receivers.

After becoming the fifth fastest player in league history to attain 100 receiving touchdowns, Mike Evans could be out of action until their Week 11 bye due to a hamstring injury. Missing three games makes it more challenging for the All-Pro wideout to maintain his streak of 1,000-yard season, which currently sits at ten.

With Evans having 335 receiving yards this season, he will need at least 665 yards from Weeks 12 to 18 to maintain his streak. Therefore, he will need at least 95 yards per game when he returns to reach 1,000.

Meanwhile, Chris Godwin underwent surgery on the dislocated ankle he suffered during their Week 7 Monday Night Football game against the Baltimore Ravens. It’s an unfortunate development because he had 576 receiving yards before the injury, putting him on pace for a career year.

The severity of the injury has him shut down for the year. If that’s the case, Godwin might have played his last game with the Buccaneers because he will be a free agent after this season.

In related news, the league is investigating whether Roquan Smith's tackle on Godwin was an illegal hip-drop tackle. Smith could be subject to hefty fines if the NFL deems it a hip-drop.

As for the Buccaneers, life goes on without their top two receivers. Hence, Baker Mayfield must foster a connection with their young but inexperienced receiving crew to keep their postseason dreams alive.
