The New Orleans Saints have parted ways with Dennis Allen. The squad fell to 2-7 after their one-point Week 9 loss to the Carolina Panthers. The Saints had a promising start to the season, beating the Panthers and the Dallas Cowboys in the first two weeks.
Unfortunately, the Saints have struggled since. After averaging 45.5 points per game in their first two matches, they’ve never reached 30 points in their first seven losses. Worse yet, they’ve lost by double digits in four of their last five.
Allen had two stints with the Saints. His first run started in 2006 as an assistant defensive line coach. Two years later, he became a secondary coach, a position he held until the 2010 season. Before leaving the franchise the first time, his coaching helped the Saints win Super Bowl XLIV over the Indianapolis Colts.

After stints as Denver Broncos defensive coordinator and Oakland Raiders head coach, Allen returned to the Saints in 2015 as senior defensive assistant. He became the Saints’ defensive coordinator for seven seasons before taking over from the then-retired Sean Payton as head coach.
Allen has a 26-53 head coaching record. He went 8-28 in 36 games with the Raiders and 18-25 in 43 games with the Saints. He never led the Raiders and the Saints to a division title during his tenure.
