Justin Jefferson Establishes Receiving Record In Vikings' Week 15 Victory

Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings solidified their fight for the NFC North title and the conference’s top seed after dominating the Chicago Bears 30-12. As for the 2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, he established another record as the first receiver to have 7,000 yards in his first five seasons.

Jefferson achieved that feat after collecting seven catches for 73 yards and a touchdown against the Bears. The All-Pro wideout gave props to Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss after his TD catch. Coincidentally, Jefferson has surpassed Moss’ franchise record for most receiving yards in his first five seasons.

Through 14 games, the wideout from LSU has 82 receptions for 1,243 yards and eight touchdowns. He continues his streak of 1,000-yard seasons to start his career. However, for this year, Jefferson is on track to surpass 1,500 receiving yards.

Jefferson has established several records since the Vikings selected him in the first round of the 2020 draft. He broke Anquin Boldin’s record for most receiving yards in a rookie season with 1,400 yards, which Ja’Marr Chase topped a year later. However, that rookie record sticks within the Vikings franchise records, beating Moss’ 1,313 yards in 1998.

In addition to his 7,000-yard milestone, Jefferson broke Torry Holt’s record for most receiving yards in the first five seasons. What’s more impressive is that Jefferson still finished with 1,074 yards despite playing only ten games last season.

Jefferson is on track to play all 17 regular season games this year. He can add more stats when the Vikings visit the Seattle Seahawks on Dec. 22.
