Sportsbooks predicted the Denver Broncos would have close to six victories this season. However, they defied the odds by compiling ten victories, enough to clinch their first playoff berth since 2015. Their defense, led by Pat Surtain II and Nik Bonitto, is a massive reason for their success.
Next Gen Stats revealed that Surtain is the league’s best in six categories among cornerbacks with at least 400 coverage snaps. He led the league in the fewest yards allowed (306), the fewest yards allowed per coverage snap (0.6), the lowest target rate in coverage (10.9%), the fewest air yards per target (7.1), and the fewest tackles missed (0).

Meanwhile, the Broncos had a franchise record of 63 sacks, the most among the NFL teams this season. Bonitto leads the Broncos with 13.5 sacks, Jonathon Cooper has 10.5 sacks, and Zach Allen has 8.5 sacks.
This defense will have the challenging task of limiting the high-powered Buffalo Bills offense, especially quarterback Josh Allen, in their Wild Card Round encounter. However, their defensive efficiency and Sean Payton’s offensive mastery will help them pull off an upset.
