The Detroit Lions’ promising 2024 NFL season went up in smoke after losing to the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round at home. Sadly, the fallout is seismic as they might lose both coordinators to head coaching vacancies.
The Lions’ divisional rival, the Chicago Bears, officially hired former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as their next head coach, replacing interim Thomas Brown. Johnson’s schemes enabled the Lions to become one of the league’s most explosive offenses. Johnson will take over a team that finished 5-12 but has a decent offensive unit with Caleb Williams, D’Andre Swift, Rome Odunze, and Keenan Allen.
A monumental day: Top target Aaron Glenn visits the #Jets & the goal is to keep him from leaving the building, sources say.

The deal isn’t done & there are still some particulars to discuss. But if all goes well, he could end today as HC of the NYJ. If not, the #Saints await. pic.twitter.com/70yHBb5Rel
Meanwhile, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn generates interest from teams with a head coaching opening. The New York Jets are rumored to sign him to a contract once he returns to the team’s facility. Glenn did the most of his battered defensive unit, which helped the Lions finish with a franchise record 15 regular season games.
Losing both coordinators could weaken the Lions’ brain thrust. However, they still have a talented roster that can dominate the opposition.
