As it stands, every National Football League team plays 17 regular season games. However, there’s a chance of having an 18th game while reducing preseason games from three to two. While this provision is in the latest Collective Bargaining Agreement, NFL players aren’t necessarily keen on having an additional game.
NFL Players Association Executive Director Lloyd Howell Jr. mentioned that none of the players want an 18th game. With football already being a highly physical matchup, an additional game could increase injury risks.

However, with the 18th game inevitable, Joe Burrow once shared how to navigate the NFL calendar once it happens. As the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback said on Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take, each team must have two bye weeks within the season. If that happens, the Super Bowl might coincide with the weekend before President’s Day, a holiday.
