Chiefs Have Salary Cap Concerns To Manage

Sadly, the Kansas City Chiefs played their worst game when it mattered most. While they scored 22 points in Super Bowl LIX, they were down 34-0 until late in the third quarter. It’s an insurmountable lead that even a team that is comfortable coming from behind cannot overcome.

In addition to a humiliating loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Chiefs missed the opportunity of being the first NFL team to win three straight Super Bowls. With another season in the books, Kansas City is facing more questions than guarantees, especially with their salary cap situation.

As pointed out by MLFootball, the Chiefs have 175 million dollars in salary commitments to only five players next season. Patrick Mahomes counts for $66.3 million of the team’s 2025 salary cap, while Chris Jones ($34.9 million) and Jawaan Taylor ($27.4 million) also take massive chunks. Joe Thuney ($27 million) and Travis Kelce ($19.8 million) complete their five biggest salary cap casualties.

General manager Brett Veach and his team must find a way to make their players’ salaries fit within the 2025 salary cap mandated by the NFL. Therefore, there will be a lot of maneuvering from the Chiefs to remain competitive and hopefully make a Super Bowl return.
