Travis Kelce Will Return for His 13th NFL Season

Christmas came early for Kansas City Chiefs fans as Travis Kelce confirmed he will be playing in his 13th National Football League season. He confirmed his decision via a text message that was shared during ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show.

“I’m coming back for sure. Gonna try and get into the best shape I’ve been this offseason and get back to the mountaintop. Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and how I got the guys ready for battle. I can’t go out like that!!!!,” Kelce’s message reads, as McAfee shared.

Kelce pondered about his playing future after the Chiefs lost big to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. That defeat ended the Chiefs’ dreams of being the first NFL team to win three consecutive Super Bowl titles. For his part, Kelce had a subpar four catches for 39 yards against the Eagles.

Meanwhile, his 97 receptions for 823 yards are uncharacteristic of him, considering he had consecutive 1,000-yard seasons from 2016 to 2022.

Regardless of his decision for the 2025 NFL season, Kelce has secured his Hall of Fame credentials with three Super Bowl titles, four First-Team All-Pro selections, and ten Pro Bowl seasons. The former Cincinnati standout holds ten NFL records, including the most receiving yards by a tight end in a season. With Kelce returning, the Chiefs must factor in his $19.8 million salary cap for 2025.
