Eagles Sign Saquon Barkley to a Historic Contract Extension

For the Philadelphia Eagles, re-signing Saquon Barkley is a no-brainer after his monster season that ended with a victory in Super Bowl LIX. However, the Eagles compensated the All-Pro running back with a contract for the ages.

The former Penn State standout agreed to a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension with $36 million in guaranteed money. The $20.6 million annual average makes him the highest paid running back in NFL history. Meanwhile, he can earn an additional $15 million through incentives.

The Eagles offered him an extension after he signed a three-year contract with the Eagles this offseason. In doing so, Barkley is under contract with the Eagles until 2028, barring his release or trade.

Barkley deserves the substantial raise after delivering a memorable season for the Eagles. In addition to becoming the ninth running back with at least 2,000 regular season rushing yards, he established the Eagles’ single-game rushing record of 255 yards, breaking the mark established by LeSean McCoy.

Barkley will be a focal point in the Eagles offense for the upcoming seasons as they continue to unleash their vaunted rushing attack to the opposition.
