The Los Angeles Dodgers made Dave Roberts the highest-paid manager in Major League Baseball after their World Series championship. ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez reported that both parties agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $32.4 million.
Roberts’ new contract surpasses the $8 million annual average of Craig Counsell’s contract with the Chicago Cubs. Meanwhile, Roberts’ extension comes at a perfect time because he is on the final year of the three-year extension he signed in 2022. Likewise, the Dodgers will be leaving for Japan to open their 2025 MLB season against the Chicago Cubs.
Roberts has a 851-506 record with eight National League West division titles, four National League championships, and two World Series titles. Meanwhile, he has the second-most postseason victories (52) among active managers, five fewer than Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy.
Dave Roberts will continue to steer a star-studded roster featuring Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman, among others. This offseason, the Dodgers added Roki Sasaki, Blake Snell, and Tanner Scott, while resigning Teoscar Hernandez, Enrique Hernandez, and Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers’ payroll will push near $400, considering the luxury tax.
