Panthers make Jaycee Horn the highest-paid DB in NFL history

The Carolina Panthers and cornerback Jaycee Horn agreed to terms on a four-year, $100 million contract extension. The $25 million annual average makes him the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history, $900,000 more than previous frontrunner Jalen Ramsey and $1 million more than Patrick Surtain II’s contract average.

The Panthers gave Horn that contact despite him missing 31 out of the 68 regular season games since he entered the league in 2021. After the Panthers selected him eighth overall, Horn played in only three games during his rookie season due to a foot injury.

The former South Carolina standout played 13 games the following year (2022), finishing with 53 tackles and a career-high three interceptions. Unfortunately, Horn played in only six games in 2023 due to a hamstring injury. Horn bounced back last year, tallying career-highs in tackles (68) and sacks (2), and pass deflections (13).

Horn’s contract also makes him the highest-paid player on the Panthers roster. Defensive tackle Derrick Brown is second with a $24 million annual average, while guard Robert Hunt is third at $20 million.
