Mason Rudolph returns to Steelers on a two-year deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers is bringing back quarterback Mason Rudolph on a two-year, $8 million contract. The deal includes $4.5 million in guaranteed money.

Rudolph returns to the Steelers after one season with the Tennessee Titans. He started the season as the starter on behalf of Will Levis. However, he became the backup when Levis returned to play. Rudolph regained the starting role when Titans head coach Brian Callahan went with him instead of Levis.

The Steelers selected Rudolph in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent the first six seasons of his career before joining the Titans. However, he spent most of his time in Pittsburgh as Ben Roethlisberger’s backup.

The Steelers brought back Rudolph amidst the team’s uncertain quarterback situation. The two Steelers’ quarterbacks last season, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, are not with the team anymore. Fields signed with the New York Jets while Wilson remains a free agent.

However, Rudolph’s role with the team is also unsure because of the possibility of Aaron Rodgers signing with the AFC North squad.
