The Texas Rangers’ starting pitching rotation injury woes continue after Jon Gray suffered a fractured right wrist during their Spring Training game against the Colorado Rockies. He suffered the injury after absorbing a comebacker from Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia.
This injury will delay Gray’s availability for the 2025 Major League Baseball season, which could be a concern for manager Bruce Bochy. Ironically, Gray started his MLB career with the Rockies, compiling a 4.59 ERA with 849 strikeouts in seven seasons.
Gray is in the final season of his four-year, $56 million contract with the Rangers. In the first three years, he compiled a 21-21 record, a 4.16 ERA, and 362 strikeouts.
In addition to Gray, Cody Bradford is also dealing with an elbow soreness that could sideline him for ten days. Likewise, Tyler Mahle has forearm soreness, though a recent MRI showed no structural damage.
With these players sidelined, the Rangers could have a rotation featuring two-time Cy Young Award winner Jacob DeGrom with rookies Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker.
