The Los Angeles Dodgers started the 2025 Major League Baseball season with a 2-0 record after defeating the Chicago Cubs again. It was a wire-to-wire victory for the defending World Series champions, starting with Will Smith’s run off a passed ball by Cubs catcher Carson Kelly in the top of the second inning.
Max Muncy made it 2-0 off a sacrifice fly by Enrique Hernandez, while Tommy Edman drilled a solo home run, giving the Dodgers a 3-0 lead. However, a two-run home run from Hernandez stretched Los Angeles’ advantage to 5-1. Shohei Ohtani closed the scoring by connecting on his first home run for 2025, making the count 6-2.
Dansby Swanson had an RBI double that trimmed the Dodgers’ lead to 6-3. However, no other team scored in the final four innings, preserving the victory for Dave Roberts’ crew. Hernandez had a run, a hit, and three RBIs, while Ohtani had an RBI and earned two walks. Meanwhile, the Dodgers’ pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts, led by Roki Sasaki and Landon Knack with three apiece. While Sasaki started the game, Knack was credited with the victory.
The Los Angeles Dodgers remain perfect as they head back to the United States with a 2-0 record. Conversely, the Cubs are left empty-handed after two games at Japan’s Tokyo Dome.
