The Cleveland Guardians have signed Tanner Bibee to a five-year contract extension with a club option for the 2030 Major League Baseball season. The Athletic’s Zach Meisel reported that Bibee will get $48 million in guaranteed money under the extended deal. This amount includes salaries of $3 million (2025), $4 million (2026), $7 million (2027), $10 million (2028), and $21 million (2029).
In addition to his annual base salaries, Bibee will also get a $2 million signing bonus this year and a $21 million club option for 2030. Meanwhile, his extension means he won’t undergo arbitration and will cover his first season as a potential free agent. Likewise, the guaranteed money is the third-most amount given to a player with a service time from two years to two years, 171 days.
In 2023, Bibee finished with a 2.98 ERA in 142 innings, making finish second behind Gunnar Henderson in the American League Rookie of the Year race. Last year, Bibee finished with a 12-8 record and a 3.47 ERA in 172.2 innings. He also helped the Guardians reach the AL Championship Series with his 3.45 ERA in 15.2 innings during the postseason. In two seasons, he has a 3.25 ERA, 1.144 WHIP, and a 22-12 record in 315.2 innings.
Meanwhile, Bibee’s contract means that only he and Jose Ramirez are signed with the Guardians beyond the 2026 MLB season. However, for 2025, Bibee will be integral to the Guardians’ aspirations of reaching and winning the World Series.
