The Milwaukee Brewers signed Jackson Chourio to a whopping eight-year, $82 million contract with club options for the 2032 and 2033 seasons. It’s the largest contract given to a player who hasn’t reached Major League Baseball.
However, the Venezuelan outfielder is proving that the Brewers made a good investment. Last season, Chourio slashed .275/.327/.464/.791 with 21 home runs and 79 RBIs, making him finished third in National League Rookie of the Year race.
He also performed in the clutch during the postseason when he connected on two home runs in a single game against the New York Mets, making him the second MLB player under 21 years old to connect on a game-tying home run since Andruw Jones. Likewise, he had two game-tying home runs in the season, the first time it has been accomplished since Babe Ruth in the 1928 World Series.
This year, he is off to a great start after a sizzling spring training. Through 17 games, Chourio slashed .469/.509/.714/1.224 throughout preseason. He has 23 hits in 49 at-bats with 13 runs, nine doubles, and eight RBIs. Maintaining that strong at bat will bode well the Brewers as they push for another postseason stint.
