Mookie Betts did not play during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ two-day Tokyo Series against the Chicago Cubs due to illness. As sports journalist Fredo Cervantes tweeted, Betts lost around 23 pounds over the last two weeks. As the former American League Most Valuable Player described, it started two days before going to Tokyo.
“Two days before Tokyo. Didn't get to play the last (spring training) game. Got on the plane, I thought I would at least give myself a couple of days to kind of heal and then the plane ride is brutal. One of the worst plane rides I've ever had. Got there and got one workout in and that was a really bad trip in Tokyo. So, I came back another bad plane ride. It's just hasn't been anything very encouraging, but it is what it is,” Betts shared with reporters.

As Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed, Betts went through a full workout and was able to consume solid food. Despite the condition, the Dodgers hope he will be ready to play on their home-opener.
