Tigers outfield rotation beset by injuries

While Opening Day is around the corners, the Detroit Tigers had concerns to address in their outfield rotation.

The team placed center fielder Parker Meadows under the 60-day injured list after suffering a musculocutaneous nerve issue last February. Since he wasn’t allowed to throw, the Tigers placed him on the IL, meaning he could return as early as May 26, missing the Tigers’ first 54 games.

While Meadows underwent a recent nerve conduction test, having an additional month of rest would be the ideal. Wenceel Perez would have been his replacement but he’s also dealing with an injury.

Perez will be out for a month due to lower back inflammation. Medical experts learned about his condition after an MRI, a bone scan, and a CT scan. Likewise, Matt Vierling won’t be available for Opening Day because of a right shoulder strain. These injuries led the Tigers to sign Manuel Margot to a one-year, $1.3 million contract.
