Garrett Crochet, Red Sox Agree to Six-Year Contract Extension

While pitcher Garrett Crochet had one start for the Boston Red Sox, his new team did not waste time in signing him to a six-year, $170 million contract extension. It’s the biggest contract given to a pitcher with four-plus years of service time, trumping Jacob DeGrom’s five-year, $137 million contract signed in 2018.

Crochet’s contract will start in 2026 and will run until 2031. However, Crochet can opt out after the 2030 season. Likewise, he could earn up to $2 million annually based on his placing on the Cy Young Award voting. While the contract has a no-trade clause, Crochet will receive a $2 million bonus if he is traded to another team.

The Red Sox traded prospects Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth, and Wikelman Gonzalez. Garrett Crochet started his Major League Baseball career with the Chicago White Sox in 2020. Two years later, he underwent Tommy John surgery. Crochet became a starting pitcher last season, finishing with a 6-12 record, a 3.58 ERA, and a 1.40 WHIP in 146 innings.
